Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your role as Vice President – Technical at Cube Green Energy? What falls within your focus and responsibilities?
I am a technician with a great interest in renewable energies. At Cube Green Energy, I lead all technical topics for our wind farms, starting with project development through construction and erection to operation and repowering. At the same time, we are further developing the solar sector and battery applications with the aim of building and operating hybrid power plants.
What are some of the challenges you experience with lubrication within wind turbines?
One of the biggest challenges is to ensure that the lubricants remain where they are used, in bearings and the gearbox. In reality, oils or greases are very often found everywhere in the turbine. This is not a question of hygiene, but a safety risk. It makes the floors slippery and can be the cause of accidents. Added to this is the flammability, which poses a high fire risk. Another challenge is the wide range of operating temperatures, which can differ by up to 70 degrees between summer and winter.
You are a speaker in the session on improving range and energy efficiency MRO, reliability and lubrication in wind turbine applications. Why is it so important to connect turbine operators and installers and create a dialogue between suppliers and end-users?
From my point of view, it is important that lubricant manufacturers are aware of the requirements of operators, e.g. low flammability, low risk to the natural environment if they were to be released into the outside world. The other wish is that lubricants can help improve operability and increase production or operational time.
What are you most looking forward to at Lubricant Expo Europe?
I am looking forward to learning what challenges the producers see for themselves. How they want to improve quality and how this will affect the operation.
