What are the current advances in preventive maintenance and condition monitoring? Ahead of the Lubricant Expo this September in Messe Düsseldorf, conference speaker Denise Pezzuoli, co-founder and CTO of SanChip, provides insight into lubricant technology and advances being made.

Can you tell us about your role at SanChip? What excites you / keeps you up at night?
I am a co-founder of SanChip and the technical component of the company. I lead the design and development of our real-time lubricant analysis products. My role ranges from product concept to methodologies validation, to prototypes until arrive at the final product. What excites me most about my work is the potential to improve and unlock new horizons in machine maintenance, reducing downtime and repair costs for our customers while promoting environmental sustainability. Seeing our innovative technology have a tangible impact on the industry and improving plant productivity is extremely satisfying. What keeps me up at night is the constant drive to do better and develop new concepts, approaches and products to always go beyond limits and ensure our solutions are truly innovative. Balancing innovation and reliability is critical and this is the biggest challenge we face every day to provide the best possible products to our customers.
Can you tell us about any exciting projects you are working on or have completed recently and elaborate on why it stands out to you?
In general, all the research and development projects we carry out with OEMs are exciting and above all challenging. In particular, the main goal of these projects is to be able to embed our technology and our devices into our customers’ products so that the machine and our device become one. This way, the machine has a built-in monitoring device from the factory that helps understand its condition 24/7 and promptly detects anomalies. What strikes me most about these projects is how the synergic work leads to amazing results in asset digitalization.
You are speaking in the session on preventative maintenance and condition monitoring. What will attendees learn from your presentation and why is it important that they attend?
I hope that my speech will convey to those who will listen to me a greater awareness of the monitoring of oil conditions. Unfortunately, very often it happens that oil monitoring takes a back seat and remains an end in itself, instead, I would like to convey the importance of correct oil monitoring that on the contrary contains a lot of valuable and strategic information both on the chemical-physical stability of the fluid but above all on the health of the machine since very often the health of the machine is reflected in the oil and vice versa. Therefore, the participants will understand the limits of traditional maintenance strategies and the substantial advantages of adopting a proactive approach thanks to the integration of real-time sensors. I think that nowadays this topic is crucial as companies aim to maximize efficiency and productivity.
What are you most looking forward to at Lubricant Expo Europe?
At Lubricant Expo Europe, I am most looking forward to engaging with industry leaders and professionals who are passionate about innovation in lubricant technology. I think will be a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas, learn about the latest advancements, and showcase SanChip’s solutions. Additionally, I hope to explore potential collaborations and partnerships that can drive further advancements in the field. The expo is a great event for inspiring conversations and fostering connections that can improve lubricant technology.
