Interview with European Certification Centre for Halal (ECC Halal)

  • What area of the lubricants industry do you specialise in, and how does it benefit the industry?

We as ECC Halal are specialised in Halal certifying different industries including lubricants and greases which are in use within the food industry.

Halal is a growing market due to the enormous demand and all the used resources within the Halal food and processing industries have to be Halal and Halal suitable. It is not only about meat, additives, processing aids or ingredients, it is also about cleaning agents, packaging materials, maintenance  and lubricants. It is easier to certify a food manufacturer who uses Halal certified products in place of doing a deeper desk research and looking for alternatives. What we see that Halal certified lubricant manufacturers have an easier entrance into the Halal market and creating new sales channels globally. This has a huge economical benefits.

  • What do you think are the industry’s biggest challenges?

What we see that there are many product assorts with the same functionality. An intensive competition but the end users haven’t enough knowledge about the differences. There is a high barrier between the manufacturers and the end users. Most of the end users (technical departments within food manufacturers) are collecting SDS and TDS of the lubricants and greases what they are using  but there is not enough knowledge about the content of all these documents.  They collect these documents only because of audits (food safety and quality audits). We think that there should be more interaction between the manufacturers of lubricants and end users.

  • How do you see the industry developing over the next 10+ years?

More innovation and sustainability.

  • What will you be showcasing on your stand at Lubricant Expo?

We will offer our services and explaining how the Halal certification procedure works and can be implemented within the lubricant industry.

  • What are you most looking forward to seeing at the show?

Diversity and how professionals will react on the development within the food industry and specially the rapidly growing Halal industry.
