Exhibitor Spotlight: flucon – Specializing in online and high-pressure viscometry, thermal analyses, two-phase flow measurement and e-fluid testing
Thursday, 1 August 2024
In preparation for the world’s largest lubricant event on 17-19 September at Messe Düsseldorf, we spoke with one of our new-for-2024 exhibitors, flucon to discover more about their specialist products and services for online and high-pressure viscometry, thermal analyses, two-phase flow measurement and e-fluid testing. Read on for the full interview!
What area of the lubricants industry do you specialise in, and how does it benefit the industry?
flucon manufactures in-house developed measuring instruments for lubricants and also offers contract testing. Besides high-pressure viscometry and aeration measurement, their key topics are thermal and electrical fluid analyses. With two unique innovations for oils and greases, EPSILON+ and E-Lub Tester, flucon follows a dual approach to dielectric lubricant testing. Using flucon’s instruments will allow lubricant manufacturers to fill the data sheets of their future products with the relevant electrical specifications.
What do you think are the industry’s biggest challenges?
Due to the ongoing electrification of drive technology there are many new challenges especially for oils and greases. We see that the traditionally insulating behaviour of lubricants is not ideal when electrical fields are applied to lubricated contacts. Both the machine elements and the lubricants can be damaged through electrical discharges. Analysing the lubricant as a dielectric is an important necessity in order to optimize formulations for a durable and sustainable operation. Also, thermal properties such as specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity have a growing relevance for lubricants and EV fluids.
How do you see the industry developing over the next 10+ years?
Many oils and greases will be further specialized for specific applications, with customized properties to meet the exact requirements of the given operating conditions.
What will you be showcasing on your stand at Lubricant Expo?
- EPSILON+ Dielectricity Meter: lab instrument for electrical testing of oils and greases in accordance with the all-new DIN 51 111 method
- E-Lub Tester Dielectric Tribometer: test rig for impedance and breakdown measurement with a lubricated test bearing
- LAMBDA Thermal Conductivity Meter: lab instrument for transient hot-wire measurement of the thermal conductivity of fluids, pastes and powders in accordance with ASTM D7896-19
What are you most looking forward to seeing at the show?
Our colleague Malte will present flucon’s Dual Approach based on a newly developed method for electrified tribology on the big stage. Join him in the “Advances in Testing and Validation for EV Lubricants” session at Track 2 – located at the front of Hall 9, 11:15 AM – 12:30 PM, Wednesday, 18th September, 2024
It will be exciting to learn about the other latest innovations in the industry, too. We’re looking forward to meeting friends, research partners and customers – see you all in Düsseldorf!
flucon will be exhibiting at stand #148. Find the full exhibitor list here.
