Could you introduce yourself and HOMMAK to our readers?
I’m Yunus Emre Yetik, Board Member and Sales Manager at HOMMAK. We’re a Turkish manufacturer of high-pressure homogenizers, based in İzmir. We’ve been in this business for more than 25 years, and today we have over 4,000 machines running in more than 110 countries — with a strong and growing footprint in the grease and lubricants industry specifically.
What specific problems do high-pressure homogenizers solve in grease production, and what’s the biggest difference compared to a traditional colloid mill?
The biggest difference is that a single high-pressure pass can do what a colloid mill alone can’t. Homogenization removes entrapped air from the grease structure during mixing, so you don’t need a separate deaerator — that alone shortens production time. It also gives you direct control over consistency: as a rule of thumb, penetration drops by around 10 units for every 100 bar of pressure applied, so you can dial in the exact NLGI grade you’re targeting. On top of that, customers consistently report a glossier, more stable grease with less oil separation, and often end up using less base oil and fewer additives to hit the same performance.
How does homogenization pressure affect grease quality — things like penetration control, NLGI grade, and air removal?
Pressure is really the control dial for the whole process. Our homogenizers operate anywhere from 0 up to 800 bar, and that range covers virtually every thickener type — lithium, lithium complex, calcium sulfonate complex, aluminum complex, polyurea, bentone, you name it — across NLGI grades from 000 to 3. As an example, one of our customers processes 5,000 kg of grease in a single pass, in about an hour, at 400 bar, and sees penetration drop from 292 to 250 in that one run. So instead of guessing and reworking a batch, producers can hit a very specific target consistency by adjusting pressure, and get a uniform result all the way through the batch, not just at the surface.

We’ve built a strong footprint across the grease and lubricants sector worldwide. It’s a sector we’ve been closely involved in for years, and one where we keep seeing repeat orders as producers scale up.
How do you see the future of grease production technology, and how will homogenization’s role grow?
I think we’ll see two things happening at once. First, producers are moving toward more specialized, higher-performance greases — calcium sulfonate complex, aluminum complex, polyurea — and these formulations genuinely need higher-pressure homogenization to reach the right structure, so demand for the technology itself is growing with the market. Second, there’s a real push toward consolidating process steps: instead of running a separate mixer, deaerator and colloid mill, we’re seeing more producers use a single high-pressure homogenization pass to do the job of two or three machines at once, which saves both time and energy. On top of that, our machines are increasingly PLC and touchscreen-controlled, so operators get repeatable, traceable results batch after batch — that kind of process control is only going to become more standard as the industry modernizes.

Lubricant Expo Europe brings together exactly the audience we want to be in front of — grease and lubricant producers from all over the world, in one place, over three days. It’s grown into one of the best-organized and most valuable shows in our calendar: a strong exhibitor lineup, serious visitor traffic, and a format that genuinely covers the whole value chain, from raw materials to finished production equipment. We’re a regular exhibitor at this show, as well as at Lubricant Expo Middle East, Lubricant Expo North America, and the ELGI Annual General Meeting, because face-to-face conversations and live demonstrations make a real difference when you’re talking about process equipment — people want to see how the machine actually behaves, not just read a spec sheet.
